 Shaun qualified from London’s Royal Veterinary College and has over thirty years experience of being a vet. After working in general practice for several years, Shaun joined an Exeter based practice in the 90’s to create ‘Crane and Moore’ before joining this with another clinic of his, where he and his wife Sally created ‘CityVets’ in 2007. The practice has progressed and grown over the years to become the largest independently owned group of practices in Exeter today. Shaun loves all aspects of being a vet and running a business but especially loves learning new skills and expanding the skill set and equipment available to CityVets. Hardworking as ever, Shaun still finds some time to enjoy his outdoor hobbies and spend time with his family!

Ed qualified from the Univeristy of Liverpool in 2009 and went on to gain a further qualification, the GPCert (Small Animal Surgery) in 2012. Ed has been with CityVets for over four years and has recently been made a partner within the business. Based at Heavitree, Ed’s major role and favourite part of the job is as a surgeon and he enjoys all types of surgery but is especially excited by anything orthopaedics (bones)! Despite this, Ed is also much loved by our clients and still enjoys meeting new and long time clients alike. Outside of work his life is kept busy by two young children and an excitable Cockerpoo.

John graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1989 and has been working for CityVets for the last 20 years. John works part time at our St Thomas branch, covering evening surgery three nights a week and all day on Fridays. He particular enjoys dentistry as well as routine surgery and always has time for any wildlife that is brought into the surgery. John especially enjoys getting to know clients and helping to keep their pets fit, healthy and well. When John isn’t at the surgery then he will be at home in his studio where he works as a wildlife artist and illustrator. Over the years he has illustrated many bird books and travelled to various regions of the world, including Africa, Madagascar and Asia. He has travelled extensively in search of subject material, visiting Antarctica and the Southern Ocean on many occasions. This year he is traveling to West Papua and Halmahera in search of Birds of Paradise, forest scenes and butterflies. John lives in Haldon forest with his family Fay, Tom and James, as well as two cats, Casper and Nit.

 Lily qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2011 after a previous degree in bioveterinary science.  After two years in mixed practice, a year following an interest in exotic animals followed by a further two years developing an interest in diagnostic imaging, Lily joined CityVets in January 2017. Lily is based at St Thomas, she loves all aspects of running a busy branch clinic and being part of the CityVets team. Lily enjoys the diversity of work being a vet with CityVets offers and particularly enjoys using the equipment in the imaging suite and developing her surgical techniques. Away from work, Lily loves to spend time with her two collie dogs Cloe and Blake and cat Bella. Lily loves the outdoors and is thoroughly enjoying exploring Exeter and its beauty with friends and her trusted canine companions.

 Caroline graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013. She started her career in west Wales as a mixed practitioner for 18 months, dealing with cats and dogs alongside cows and sheep. Caroline was then drawn back to the West Country to be nearer family and worked as a locum vet before joining CityVets in January 2016. Caroline’s main interest at work is diagnostic imaging, Caroline is happiest when interpreting x-rays and ultrasound scanning! In charge of our Whipton branch, Caroline is enjoying getting to know the pets and owners of Whipton village. Outside of work, Caroline plays hockey for ISCA hockey club, enjoys the gym and seeing friends at Exeter Quay.

 Eileen qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and worked for three years in a general practice in Cornwall before going off to explore and work in New Zealand, where she treated a range of animals from cows to alpaca! The call to come home came in 2014 when Eileen started working part-time for CityVets. Eileen loves being a vet, and particularly enjoys the variety and challenges of first opinion practice. Based at our Heavitree branch, Eileen can be seen on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. At home, Eileen is kept busy with her young family and enjoys all that living near the coast has to offer including windsurfing!

Louise graduated from the Royal Veterinary college London in 2011 with a degree in Veterinary science and Veterinary Medicine. She has a keen interest in exotic species and did one month internship at the John G Shedd Aquarium in Chicago working with reptiles, fish, primates and marine mammals. Louise went on to work in Cornwall where she enjoyed being the vet for Screech Owl sanctuary and on-call Marine mammal medic. When Louise then moved to Somerset she started her own exotic clinics and was the vet for Exmoor Bird of prey center and Tropiquara Zoo. Louise joined CityVets in 2018 to run our Alphington practice. As well as providing care for cats and dogs Louise works closely with Livia, our exotic species specialist, and is pursuing an advanced Certificate in exotic animals. In her spare time Louise plays women’s rugby for Minehead Barbarians. She loves walking, kayaking and camping with her four dogs; Pumpkin (pug), Joey (terrier), Max (German Shepherd) and River (Great Dane). Louise is also owned by Loki the cat and four chinchillas; Dr.House, Forman, Chase and Wilson.

Sam qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2014. He started work in a small and exotic animal practice in Bedford where he thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 years of his career. He then moved to a large hospital practice near Cambridge where he enjoyed treating a huge variety of cases and regular emergency and critical care cases.
Sam enjoys all aspects of life as a first opinion vet especially the challenges and surprises that every day at work brings. He particularly enjoys emergency care, small animal surgery and dentistry work. He also loves getting to know clients and helping to keep their furry friends fit and healthy.
Sam joined Cityvets in 2018 after deciding to relocate from the Cambridge area with his wife and son to be closer to family. He grew up in Devon and appreciates the wonderful landscape and coast here all the more for having been away.
Outside of work he enjoys spending time with family and a variety of outdoor pursuits, especially cycling and running. He is also a keen gardener and enjoys growing his own produce. At home he has two much loved cats – Tom and Molly.

 Livia qualified from the University of Parma, Italy in 2002. Initially Livia worked in an exotic animal referral clinic in Milan for two years before moving to the UK where she started work in Small Animal practices. Betwen 2008-2011, Livia completed a residency in Rabbit and Exotic Animal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and she also gained the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine. After stints at Chester Zoo as Veterinary Officer and as an Exotics Veterinary Clinician at the University of Glasgow, Livia was drawn to the warmer weather of Devon! Livia is a European Diplomate in Small Mammal Medicine and joined CityVets in 2015 to provide our Exotics Referral Service.

Jo Harris from HeartVets regularly visits our practice, providing expert cardiology care to our patients. She is now an RCVS Recognised Specialist, meaning she has achieved the highest level of training and expertise in her area of veterinary medicine. Together with the other members of the HeartVets team (fellow Specialists Mark Patteson and Dave Dickson, and cardiology clinician Bill Slee), Jo sees patients across the South West UK, as well as running their online diagnostics service providing ECG/radiograph interpretation and Holter monitor rental and analysis. Jo has published articles in top-tier academic journals and continues to be actively involved in various cardiac research projects. She teaches cardiology to local vets and is a regular speaker at national and international conferences.

 Kathy is an experienced veterinary surgeon who has worked exclusively in ophthalmology (eyes) for many years. Kathy is a freelance ophthalmologist who works closely with CityVets to provide a comprehensive referral service for our clients. Kathy can be seen at our St Thomas surgery and regularly holds clinics on a Tuesday but is always on hand for the more urgent or emergency cases.
