 Shaun qualified from London’s Royal Veterinary College and has over thirty years experience of being a vet. After working in general practice for several years, Shaun joined an Exeter based practice in the 90’s to create ‘Crane and Moore’ before joining this with another clinic of his, where he and his wife Sally created ‘CityVets’ in 2007. The practice has progressed and grown over the years to become the largest independently owned group of practices in Exeter today. Shaun loves all aspects of being a vet and running a business but especially loves learning new skills and expanding the skill set and equipment available to CityVets. Hardworking as ever, Shaun still finds some time to enjoy his outdoor hobbies and spend time with his family!

Ed qualified from the Univeristy of Liverpool in 2009 and went on to gain a further qualification, the GPCert (Small Animal Surgery) in 2012. Ed has been with CityVets for over four years and has recently been made a partner within the business. Based at Heavitree, Ed’s major role and favourite part of the job is as a surgeon and he enjoys all types of surgery but is especially excited by anything orthopaedics (bones)! Despite this, Ed is also much loved by our clients and still enjoys meeting new and long time clients alike. Outside of work his life is kept busy by two young children and an excitable Cockerpoo.

John graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1989 and has been working for CityVets for the last 20 years. John works part time at our St Thomas branch, covering evening surgery three nights a week and all day on Fridays. He particular enjoys dentistry as well as routine surgery and always has time for any wildlife that is brought into the surgery. John especially enjoys getting to know clients and helping to keep their pets fit, healthy and well. When John isn’t at the surgery then he will be at home in his studio where he works as a wildlife artist and illustrator. Over the years he has illustrated many bird books and travelled to various regions of the world, including Africa, Madagascar and Asia. He has travelled extensively in search of subject material, visiting Antarctica and the Southern Ocean on many occasions. This year he is traveling to West Papua and Halmahera in search of Birds of Paradise, forest scenes and butterflies. John lives in Haldon forest with his family Fay, Tom and James, as well as two cats, Casper and Nit.

 Sara qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and worked for a few years in the Teign Valley before heading to New Zealand to live and work in a small animal practice on the Kapiti Coast. Having loved the outdoor lifestyle, the call to come back to the UK came in 2013 when Sara went back to University to complete a one year internship at Bristol Vet School after which she joined CityVets in 2014. Now based at St Thomas, Sara loves all aspects of running a busy branch clinic and especially loves building strong client relationships. Sara has a special interest in feline geriatric medicine and is currently completing the BSAVA post-graduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine. Outside of work Sara is kept busy training her two dogs, three cats and newly acquired husband! Sara loves the outdoors and plays football for Budleigh Salterton Ladies.

 Caroline graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013. She started her career in west Wales as a mixed practitioner for 18 months, dealing with cats and dogs alongside cows and sheep. Caroline was then drawn back to the West Country to be nearer family and worked as a locum vet before joining CityVets in January 2016. Caroline’s main interest at work is diagnostic imaging, Caroline is happiest when interpreting x-rays and ultrasound scanning! In charge of our Whipton branch, Caroline is enjoying getting to know the pets and owners of Whipton village. Outside of work, Caroline plays hockey for ISCA hockey club, enjoys the gym and seeing friends at Exeter Quay.

Steve qualified from the University of Cambridge in 1994. Being a farmers son he started off in mixed practice in North Devon where he planned to embark on a career in large animals. Finding small animal medicine and surgery more exciting and rewarding he moved to Plymouth where, over the past 20 years, he has worked in a number of practices gaining a wide range of experience, in surgery especially. His particular interests lie in the area of Emergency Medicine and Surgery. Exeter being his home town, Steve has always been keen to return and is very excited at becoming part of the team at CityVets and is based at the Alphington branch.

Steve lives with his partner in Heavitree, and his rather sedentary 8 year old Hermanns tortoise called Valerie, and manic working Cocker Spaniel puppy called Jango. He enjoys all outdoor sports but especially cycling, coastal walking and surfing.

 Lily qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2011 after a previous degree in bioveterinary science.  After two years in mixed practice, a year following an interest in exotic animals followed by a further two years developing an interest in diagnostic imaging, Lily joined CityVets in January 2017. Lily is loving being part of the CityVets team working mostly at the Heavitree Hospital and also visits the other branches as needed. Lily enjoys the diversity of work being a vet with CityVets offers and looks forward to continuing to use the equipment in the imaging suite and developing her laparoscopic surgical techniques. Away from work, Lily loves to spend time with her two collie dogs Cloe and Blake and cat Bella. Lily loves the outdoors and is thoroughly enjoying exploring Exeter and its beauty with friends and her trusted canine companions.

 Eileen qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and worked for three years in a general practice in Cornwall before going off to explore and work in New Zealand, where she treated a range of animals from cows to alpaca! The call to come home came in 2014 when Eileen started working part-time for CityVets. Eileen loves being a vet, and particularly enjoys the variety and challenges of first opinion practice. At home, Eileen is kept busy with her young family and enjoys all that living near the coast has to offer including windsurfing! Eileen is currently on maternity leave.

 Livia qualified from the University of Parma, Italy in 2002. Initially Livia worked in an exotic animal referral clinic in Milan for two years before moving to the UK where she started work in Small Animal practices. Betwen 2008-2011, Livia completed a residency in Rabbit and Exotic Animal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and she also gained the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine. After stints at Chester Zoo as Veterinary Officer and as an Exotics Veterinary Clinician at the University of Glasgow, Livia was drawn to the warmer weather of Devon! Livia is a European Diplomate in Small Mammal Medicine and joined CityVets in 2015 to provide our Exotics Referral Service.

  Jo qualified from the University of Bristol in 2000 and worked in both mixed and small animal practice, before gaining the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 2008. Jo joined HeartVets in 2009, an independent cardiology consultancy based in the South West UK, and has since achieved the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology. She is actively involved in research into arrhythmias in canine dilated cardiomyopathy, and feline dyspnoea, and has presented at local, national and international conferences. Jo offers weekly cardiology referral clinics at our Heavitree branch for all our cardiorespiratory cases, and can also provide breed screening by auscultation (listening with a stethoscope) and Doppler echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound scan). Outside of work Jo is kept busy with her young family and her Labrador Tarka!

 Kathy is an experienced veterinary surgeon who has worked exclusively in ophthalmology (eyes) for many years. Kathy is a freelance ophthalmologist who works closely with CityVets to provide a comprehensive referral service for our clients. Kathy can be seen at our St Thomas surgery and regularly holds clinics on a Tuesday but is always on hand for the more urgent or emergency cases.
